We need to push forward: more accountability (dual curriculum)
The Band Program always has 2 goals in mind, develop the individual musician, and develop the entire ensemble. In order to keep this going and improve the over all ensemble, every musician must step up.  At home practice is the perfect time to develop your skills.  Not sure what you can do to improve? Ask Mr. B

Auxiliary-
Every Auxiliary member must have the same required items as the Winds and Battery. Everyone should have their own binder to take home after rehearsals to study and improve their routines. Do not come to rehearsal not knowing your routine. The same expectations for the Winds and Percussion is also for the Auxiliary. We are one unit, not 3. Mrs. Leimbach should have sent you what you owe so make sure to arrive at Uniform Fittings to pay for ALL of your items.
Drill Charts and more are in Charms! Just look in the 2018-19 folder
Drill Charts are in Charms and have 2 versions. The big picture and ZOOM. ZOOM is there so you can get a closer look at the individual spots. What would be very wise is for you to print out the ZOOM for yourself, highlight your dot (your number assignment is in the cast sheet in Charms) and bring your highlighted drill to rehearsal (and keep them in your binder!!!

Marching Band apps!
There are 2 really cool apps you can use with your smartphone, Drillbook Next and 3D viewer by Pyware.  This makes learning drill a lot easier.  You can purchase either one, but they are not mandatory and Mr. B prefers 3D Viewer but either one will work and have been updated.  The QR code in Charms is for 3D Viewer.  If you use Drill Book Next, go ahead and book for Midview Marching Blue’s 2018 pregame and Show 1!   To do so, open the app and click on the top right button.  Scroll down to "Search for Show", type in Midview Marching Blue, scroll all the way to the bottom to find 2018 Pregame and 2018 Show 1. Click on them and there will be a password. The password is the same as the school code for Charms Office.
Band Camp is coming soon!
  • Get up early enough to eat a healthy breakfast and drink water (and have enough time to put on sunscreen and FILL YOUR WATER JUG) (Picture of a water jug)
  • Make sure and wear light loose clothing to try and keep cool in the August heat. Keep in mind that when we are in the stadium, the turf is about 10-20 degrees hotter than grass.
  • Make sure to bring ALL items for Band Camp before you leave the house: Backpack or string bag, black 3-ring binder (with all of your music in it), pencil and highlighter, fanny pack, towel, sunscreen, WATER JUG (not a water bottle)
  • Arrive at 7:45 (we START at 8) and head to either the small gym or the band room. (On Rookie Day, students will report to the Band room first)
  • We begin playing Ultimate Warm-up at 8am.  If you are not, you are tardy and will need to do a make up or you may lose 3rd quarter privileges at the first game.
  • From 8am-9am we will be inside releasing music and learning the handbook and reading the drill
  • 9am-11am we are outside
  • 11am-Noon we are in the small gym reviewing music and drill and getting new music
  • Noon-1pm Battery rehearsal

Practicing
  • This is an at home thing. The goal for you should be to work and being able to play your part accurately, independently, and with confidence.  Saying “I can only play when others are playing” means you have not prepared for this class and the question should be then, will this really earn an “A”?
Rehearsal-learn others parts
  • In Rehearsal, Students should be prepared enough from at home practice to be able to contribute to the entire ensemble. During rehearsal, you are to LISTEN and discover how your part fits with the rest of the piece. We need equal contribution.

Hey Blue!
July has begun, drill writing has started and we have a month to go! With that said, there are somethings you must do to be ready for that first day.  You need to have ALL of your forms ready to turn in, you must bring ALL items (see below) to rehearsals, you must be ready to pay all fees, and you MUST know the schedule. It is without a doubt going to be an amazing year, be ready!
Upcoming Events:
Needs for Band Camp
  • Water Jug- It is VERY important to drink A LOT of water during band camp so you can stay healthy! Water bottles are NOT enough water for the amount of energy you will be using during rehearsals. (Also eat a good breakfast like oatmeal and bananas!)
  • Sunscreen- you don't want to get burned!
  • Sneakers (NO sandals or flip-flops)- If you choose to arrive with the wrong shoes, you will be sent home to get correct ones.
  • "Fanny pack", string bag, and or backpack- Having a backpack or string bag to put ALL of your stuff in is a great idea. Also when you are on the field, having a fanny pack with all of your extra "on field" needs will truly help in making every rehearsal your best. Check our the drum corps rehearsals, they are ALL wearing them!
  • Pencil and highlighter- You will definitely need these to mark your parts, highlight the phrases, or highlight your spot on the drill chart.
  • Towel- A towel for Band Camp has many uses. During your water break, you can put your instrument on it to keep it from getting dirty or wet.  You can also put it over yourself to produce shade.  The possibilities are endless!
  • Binder- This is a MUST! You will keep everything handed out to you in band in your 3 ring binder. There are students who don't get a binder and the same thing always happens. They lose their music and other handouts. Let's all try something new and have EVERYONE arrive on day 1 with a black 1-2 inch black binder.
Fees
  • Don't forget that all fees must be paid at your uniform fitting BEFORE you get fitted. Please be prepared to pay with cash, check, or credit card!  To see fee totals, click HERE
Volunteering
  • In order to continue the high successes in this band program, we need volunteers! Please consider donating your time for all of the Band students.  Click HERE to volunteer!
Make sure your instruments work properly!!
  • Clarinets and Saxophones, make sure you have enough reeds! You should ALWAYS have 3 working reeds at all times!
  • Trumpets, Mellophones, Baritones, and Tubas. Make sure your valves work fast! You MUST oil them before EVERY time you play!!!
  • Trombone!  Your slides must move quickly! Use slide oil or cream and make sure they don't crunch!
  • All winds need to use the proper size mouthpiece.  If you are not sure what you need, click HERE to see the band handbook!
Drum Corps International!
  • Drum Corps is considered the Marching Band Major League. We are lucky enough to have 2 students in the area who are marching this summer. One is from Firelands and the other is a recent graduate from Midview!  Make sure and check out Drum Corps International events today!!!
American School Band Director's Association
  • ASBDA is an association in which Band Directors can only be invited in when they prove that they are a quality director who has taught for a specific amount of years.  Mr. Brunger was inducted into this prestigious group.
The Pride we have wearing the uniform
  • Last year was the first year for our new uniforms. The pride and honor last years group had when wearing this was outstanding. Please see this video on the pride of wearing a uniform.

As you can see, we have a fresh new look to our website!  With that said, we want to make sure and honor everyone's request.  We want to post many pictures of the year on social media and this site.  If you do not wish to have your child's picture on the internet or social media, please click HERE to fill out the form and your request will be granted.

Physicals and Walgreens
Walgreens has a great savings opportunity for getting your yearly physicals for cheap!  Every year it is required that every student in marching band has a current and updated physical.  Each physical is good for 365 days.  If you need a physical, make sure and make your appointment ASAP!
